Stumped

So what is it that you would like to hear about? As I am drafting my next post about a recent desert trip, I am wondering what I should write about next. I have no idea.

Oh Hi

The drive across the 150 at dusk to Ojai is one of the most beautiful rides I have ever taken. I wish I could have taken photos. I will have to do it again sometime with more daylight to spare.

Ojai is a cute little stylish town, where every place become a winery and craft beer resource. It is strangely half hippie half beverly hills who don't have a spare home in Napa.

The first photo of this post was a corvette parade that went down the main drag as we walked the short mile from our hotel to get coffee and hit the farmers market which is pretty amazing. A lot of veggies, fruit and baked goods, not like LA which is clothes, jewelry, and piles of incense, and giant food courts.

We checked out of the hotel and hit another winery and around the table everyone was from LA enjoying the quiet weekend away, the quiet, the calm, the abundance of wine.

How do you greet a person from Ojai

This post is from the vaults.

Sometimes the books you read come at very coincidental times in your life. As I am writing this I am reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and there is a manhunt going on for an ex cop on a killing spree. Driving up the one on my way to Ojai we passed a caravan of navy tactical vehicles. Soldiers dressed for something. Right now they are searching inland in Big Bear..

Not that I meant to start this post off on a morbid note. It is just an observation. Sometimes lighthearted books bring about happy coincidences too. If there were a book about my life right now if would be about a woman, redoing the things that make her happy with someone who appreciates it and experiencing a city she loves in new ways.

One of these things is taking an overnight trip to wine country. I have never gone winetasting formally. One class and a couple wine by the ounce places. (I am always tempted to run around and mix them together as one super-wine, but I think it might taste really really bad)

A couple Saturdays ago the guy and I decided to do an overnight trip to Ojai since we had both never been. We drove up the 1, which is such a beautiful drive, but sometimes the 1 can be a tricky little thing. Be careful in Ventura or you end up in an industrial area, which isn't very ocean viewy at all.

Our first stop was Santa Barbara to kill some time before checking into the hotel in ojai. We had a great lunch, went to try craft beers, and stumbled upon the Urban Wine Trail, which is a cluster of wineries with open tastings. Some bachelorette parties could do some serious damage. Whooo Hoooo!

We stopped at the Santa Barbara Winery, just because we were there and overwhelmed by allof the choices. It was a great choice and we walked out of there with two whites, surprising because I am not the biggest fan of the white varities.

This post is getting long, so to be continued

Good surprises

My squeal of delight during kbbq last Saturday was not because gangnam style came on during our festival of bbqed meats, it was because of a surprise visitor to LA, my cousin Winnie. Her time in LA was short so I met her downtown for a quick breakfast. I chose Bottega Louie because it is a bakers paradise, tree like towers of macaron, hello kitty colored eclairs, powdery profiterole, bavarian pretzels, baguettes upon baguettes.

Our breakfast was great. So good to catch up and talk about how old we are. I still can't believe her oldest is starting college.

I'll be having more visitors the beginning of next month. Keep coming, I love sharing this city with people.
